INTRODUCTION TO WORK
I graduated high school when I was fifteen and decided to take a little over a year off before starting college. During this time I began my life long passion for shaping glass. I have been lampworking for six and a half years and offhand glassblowing for 6 years now. During this time I have been able to develop a solid foundation of knowledge and skill for the medium. I have always been artistic but never found a medium that really held my attention until I discovered glass blowing. I really love the three dimensional forms that can be created. The shape and form of the glass with its curves, depth, shine and clarity is really mesmerizing. I find my work very gratifying. I really enjoy the process and the end result.
At age 16 I left Vermont to attend Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire. At this school I began to work with the offhand method of glassblowing in which I would make dishes, vases Gazing Orbs etc. I love the intricate small detail that can be achieved with lampworking but the large scale of offhand glass is very satisfying as well. I completed all of glass classes and two additional independent studies At FPU. I did some teaching in college, which I enjoyed, but my passion lies in creating my own work.
In the globalized world we live in today, everything is mass-produced and machine made, I like keeping the tradition of hand made glass alive. Every piece is made and designed with you in mind.
I have fully committed my life to pursuing my art. I have little regrets in life if any. The decisions one makes and the road one takes create who you are; different roads and decisions lead to different places alternately shaping your persona. Even though many of these decisions I have been based on shaping glass. Glass has also shaped me into the person I am today, which I am very happy with.
